The change that we should make to improve mental health in sports

 November 12

"Philadelphia cornerback Jaire Alexander is stepping away from the game of football to focus on his mental health" stated ESPN. Jaire was one of the leagues best cornerbacks last year, which has changed this year and made him more of a role player. Jaire stated that this has been mentally challenging because of what people are saying about his play and how he feels he is preforming.

Mental health is a very important aspect when it comes to the athletic department, especially in high school. Mental health in high school is a very important thing to fix because it allows the athlete to feel stressed or depressed at a young age rather then later in life.

According to PMC, around 91% of student athletes in high school deal with some sort of stress of mental health problems. Most of the mental problems were dealing with harassing and bullying and problems going on in the athletes personal life.

There are ways to fix the problem with athletes suffering from mental health. Some ways can be to have resources that players can feel safe to go to. Around 40% of athletes that suffer from mental problems do not end up going to talk to someone to get help. Another way that has been brought up is to teach better sportsmanship from opposing players. bullying and harassing are elements that players suffer against in the athletic department and needs a change
